Arriving by train

Vienna is well connected to the international rail network. International trains arrive either at Wien Westbahnhof or Wien Meidling. From there you can take the underground, buses and/or trams | Train schedule.

To Venue by taxi: Journey time approx. 10 minutes.
By tram: From Westbahnhof take the tram number 5 (direction Praterstern) and get out at the station “Währinger Straße/ Nussdorfer Straße”. Walk along Währinger Straße and take the first street to the left (Strudlhofgasse). The entrance to the Faculty is at Strudlhofgasse 4.

 

Arriving at the Airport (VIE)

The CAT (City Airport Train) and the Railway System S7 will take you directly into the city of Vienna. They terminate at the city air terminal within the “Landstraße/Wien-Mitte” railway station. From Landstraße take the underground line U4 (direction “Heiligenstadt”) until the station “Schottenring” and change onto the line U2 (direction “Karlsplatz”). Get off at the station “Schottentor-Universität”. From there take a tram (lines 37, 38, 40, 41 or 42) to the station “Währinger Straße/Nußdorfer Straße” (2 stops). Walk along Währinger Straße (back in the direction from which the tram has come.) The entrance to the conference venue (Faculty of Physics) is at Strudlhofgasse 4, on the right-hand side of the street.

By taxi: You can find a taxi stand directly in front of the arrival hall of the airport. It takes you about 30 minutes to get to the institute, the costs are about € 30.– to € 40.–

Moving around in Vienna

Vienna has an efficient public transportation system. You can easily purchase tickets at the ticket machines in Vienna or online. The 72-h Vienna ticket (EURO 14.50) is a good way of moving around in Vienna.

For those who plan to do some sightseeing while they are in Vienna, the Vienna Card (EURO 19.90) might be the right choice. It is also valid for 72 hours and entitles you to reduced rates when visiting museums, exhibitions, etc. You can buy the Vienna Card at the airport, in most hotels or order it online.
